Our Story
The idea for HossBox came about earlier this year; my big beautiful warmblood gelding, Byker, needed some treatment to help with suspensory ligament damage, so I thought I’d try selling a few horsey items at local shows and events to justify the cost to my husband a bit better.
It very quickly seemed that there was a small gap in the market locally – particularly after we lost Countrywide in Abergavenny, so I took the plunge and opened my teeny tiny shop in Crickhowell.
Sadly, I lost Byker on Good Friday – a completely unrelated condition. I’ve broken my heart over him, and this little shop has kept me focussed and busy, whilst I adjust to life without my best friend.
I took on an ex-racehorse last summer, who has just had surgery for kissing spines, so everything I’m earning from HossBox is going towards his rehab. He’s currently at the therapy centre at Hartpury College, and doing very well so far. He’s beginning to look huge as he’s muscling correctly - will I dare to get back on him???!!! My relationship with Fred is Byker’s legacy - without the confidence he gave me, I would never-in-a-million years have considered taking on an ex-racer…me, who could barely sit on a horse without having a breakdown just seven years ago!! I’ll document Fred’s journey in a blog as we go - I’m sure there will be some interesting moments!!
